A Natural Pastime: Gardening in South Carolina. Presented by the Historic Columbia Foundation. Historic Columbia Foundation will host its 3rd Annual Historic Gardening Symposium, A Natural Pastime: Gardening in South Carolina featuring keynote speaker Amanda McNulty, co-host of SCETV’s Emmy-Award winning Making It Grow.
This year’s gardening symposium features presentations from leading experts on southern gardening, workshops and tours of historic gardens.
Not just for gardeners, the event has a variety of aspects for those with an appreciation for beautiful landscapes, historic properties, and southern gardens and plants. Highlights include a virtual tour on what sets central South Carolina apart from its Lowcountry and Piedmont neighbors from naturalist Dr. Rudy Mancke of the University of South Carolina and a session from Jay Hiers, president of the South Carolina Rose Society and superintendent of parks for the City of Orangeburg, with a discussion on acquiring all varieties of Noisette Roses for a current project at the nationally-recognized Edisto Memorial Gardens.
